History

BOGATYR is one of the classic Russian winter hardneck garlic varieties, created at the end of the 20th century in state horticultural institutes, where breeders worked with local Siberian and Central Russian populations. The variety name “Bogatyrj” — the strong one, hero — was chosen to reflect its outstanding qualities. After the official breeding program was completed, BOGATYR quickly spread throughout Russia and later to other Eastern European countries, especially the Baltics and Ukraine. It was widely used by both professional farms and smallholdings, as the variety is reliable, consistent, and visually very attractive.
