Winter Garlic "PURPLE HAZE"

Allium sativum var ophioscorodon subvar rocambole

Purple Haze is a decoratively beautiful, distinctly purple-colored garlic variety that combines a strong flavor, high aroma intensity, and good yield. This variety belongs to the hardneck type and is especially suitable for cooler regions where a hardy and resilient variety is needed.

Purple Haze stands out with its contrasting purple skin, strong storage durability, and large, symmetrical cloves. The variety is valued both in gastronomy and professional cultivation.

History

Purple Haze is a relatively new but quickly recognizable hardneck garlic variety that originated as a selection line from northern region purple garlics. Its origin is linked to North American and Eastern European growers who, in the early 21st century, bred hard varieties with especially vivid purple skins and expressive flavor.

Purple Haze was selected to combine:

  • cold resistance,

  • large cloves,

  • decorative, dark purple color,

  • strong but pure aroma.

It quickly spread among amateur and professional growers because it provided a stable yield, overwinters well, and its visually attractive garlics became a popular product in markets and specialized farms.

Today, Purple Haze is considered a premium class purple group variety, especially popular in gourmet kitchens and niche garlic farms.
