Winter garlic "KASKIO"

Allium sativum var ophioscorodon subvar purple stripe

Kaskio is a decoratively beautiful and productive hardneck Purple Stripe type of winter garlic variety with a pronounced purple coloration, large heads, and long, juicy cloves. The variety is popular among both gardeners and collectors due to its excellent taste, stable winter hardiness, and very good yield potential.

Kaskio's flavor is intense, spicy, with a slight sweet note — it is excellent for fresh use as well as cooking, as it retains its aroma even at high temperatures.

History

Kaskio is one of the most modern Purple Stripe hardneck lines, whose roots can be traced to ancient Central and Western Asian garlic genotypes. Historically, this group was cultivated in Persia, China, and Central Asia, later spreading to Europe along trade routes.

Kaskio as a separate variety emerged at the end of the 20th century — possibly in the work of Baltic or Eastern European breeders, where Purple Stripe varieties were specially adapted to cold climates. Today, Kaskio is a rarer variety, valued among collectors for its stable and high-quality yields in northern countries.
