Winter Garlic "SABAGOLD", or "SABADROME"
Allium sativum var sativum ssp silverskin subvar creole
SabaGold (SabaDrome) is an exceptionally high-yielding softneck garlic variety, known for its especially large, dense bulbs and light creamy skins. It is one of the most commercially popular varieties in Europe, thanks to its high yield, very good storability, and mild, harmonious flavor.
The bulbs of this variety are large, round, with 10–18 evenly sized cloves, which are ideal for culinary use and fresh consumption. SabaGold is especially valued in restaurants and processing plants — its flavor is aromatic but not aggressively sharp.
History
SabaGold (also known as SabaDrome) is a softneck garlic variety bred in France, created in the second half of the 20th century with the aim of obtaining large bulbs, high yields, and long storability. It was developed by selecting the best Artichoke group lines, which French farmers used for commercial trade and export.
Thanks to its excellent adaptability and stable yield, the variety quickly spread throughout Europe — especially in Germany, Poland, and the Baltics. Today, SabaGold/SabaDrome is one of the most popular softneck varieties in professional farms.
